Project Axshaya (T.B. Control Programme)

Under Project Axshaya, Programmes were organized at Mandar , Burmu, Khalari, and Lapung Block of Ranchi District by Berojgar Kalyan Sangh funded by Catholic Health Association of India  (CHAI). Under this Programme, following activity is done:-

    GKS Meeting:-
8 meetings per month were organized for providing information regarding T.B. This meeting was participated by 32 to 40 PRI Members such as Mukhiya, Panchayat Samiti Members, Ward member, Women Self Help Group members and other village people, in which information regarding T.B was provided such as:-
•    What is Tuberculosis (T.B)?
•    Symptoms of T.B?                                        
•    How it is spread?
•    If T.B happened, then where to go for treatment so that they can get free test,
treatment & medicines.
•    Side effects of medicines.

In this meeting, myths which are discussed such as:
•    T.B suffered people are untouchables because they believe that this disease is spread by touching & staying with them.
•     Avoided from the society & public places.
•     Should live in a closed room.
•    T.B disease can’t be cure.

    Axshya Samwad:-
   Under this, 500 household per month is visited by the Organization volunteers, where they provide information about T.B disease & Questionnaire were asked by the volunteers. Sputum is collected, if any persons found the symptoms of T.B disease.


    Mid-Media Programme:
Under the programme, in every 3 months, one Mid Media Activity is performed like Wall Writing, T.B Awareness Campaign at School, Rally, Promotion through loud speaker by Autos, Nukkar Nathak (Street play) at local Haat, and Hoarding display of T.B Awareness message.

    Axshya Village:-
Under Axshya village activity, the villages where Tribal population & which is hard to reach is symbolize as Axshya Village. Axshya Village are those villages where every person is aware of T.B disease, so for this different activity is performed at that place/ area.

The main motive of this type of programme is that as to completely abolish the myths from the society by educating & awaking people regarding this disease, so that T.B affected people should be given their freedom & should live their life as other people in the society.

Activities performed under Sputum Collection & Transportation:-

    GKS Meeting:
When during the session of providing information about T.B Disease, people attended there tell Volunteers that he/she has symptoms or any person in their surrounding having same type of symptoms, then particular person is met by the volunteers & their sputum is collected & reach the DMC Center along with the sputum.
    Axshya Samwad:
Sputum is also collected through door-to door visit under Axshya Samwad, as under this volunteer provide information of T.B Disease. After that, some family member tells volunteer that he/ she or any member in their family has symptoms of this disease.
    Involvement of  Volunteers & RHCPs (Rural Health Community Practitioner ):
As Volunteers & RHCP is that particular area, so they are more aware of people they met. Door to door visit by Volunteer & visit of people with RHCP persons at their place for their disease or other any normal health problem, so these people are more aware of people having symptoms of T.B disease.
 For this reasons, these volunteers & RHCP person get training session by the Organization.

Under Treatment process, sputum that was collected is tested by Lab Technician & after the test, if any sample show positive result, then that particular person is contacted & his/her treatment (DOTS) is started. The patients are feed medicines by the volunteers or Health volunteers & Sahiya of that place.

During the treatment of patient or patients on DOTS are called for the meeting & visited by Organization (NGO) Authority, so that Authority should aware of that if,
•    Volunteers or Sahiya person is doing their part or not.
•    Patients are taking their course of medicine or not,
•    Awareness of volunteers regarding patients.
•    Facilities are provided to patients or not.
•    Knowledge of patients of time & quantity of medicines to be taken.
•    Visit of volunteers with the patients or not.
•    Are patients are feeding their medicines in right way or not.

   After this, those patients who financial position is not good is given food grains by the
  Organization so that their continuation of their medicine is not break between, as before
  Indulging medicines patients should have taken their meal or not.

Social activities by the Organization:-
In this, the Organization Personnels & other person meet Patients of T.B at their home or called or were grouped at one place, where face to face interaction with the patients is done, so that they can be aware of the situation of the patient.
    Whether the patients are curing or not.
    What is the status of his/ her livelihood?
    How he/she is treated in the house.
    What is his/her food nutrition or intake?
    Whether he/ she is taking medicines in time or not?


      The Outcome of the Programme :
    25,700 door-to-door visit (household visit under Axshya Samwad) from 2012 to 2017.

    2,201 sputum collections, out which 212 patient identified, in which some are cure & some are on DOT.
